It is one of a myriad of new modular school rooms, playgrounds and building upgrades which ArchTam has recently helped bring to the San Francisco Unified School District through their Bond Programs. From 2006 to 2011, ArchTam served as Construction Manager for $61 million of improvements and, beginning in 2012, continued work for another $49.7 million of upgrades as both Construction Manager and Program Management Support Contractor.

Workers put final touches in the sponsor areas as the sun sets on the 2016 Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Taking its inspiration from the dramatic natural setting, the energy and ambitions of Rio, ArchTam’s winning masterplan and venue designs for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games are now complete.

This prestigious project is focused on approximately 120 hectares of land in the district of Barra da Tijuca, southwest of Rio de Janeiro. ArchTam won an international competition to design the Games masterplan, which included three stages: Games, transition and legacy.

During the Games, the Olympic Park is designed to prioritise the safety and free movement of more than 150,000 spectators expected on peak days. At the conclusion of the Games, the focus will switch to the transformation of the site into lush, green parkland, with ArchTam’s landscape design strategy transforming large spectator areas into a new linear park for the community. The overriding goal is to deliver sustainable Games in the very broadest sense, so the host city derives ongoing economic, social and environmental benefits.

This exposure was taken at 1/100th of a second at f 4.0 at ISO 2000 on a Canon 1Dx mk II camera with 24-70mm lens using a stabilizer from a helicopter.

An office worker connects through downtown Manhattan taking in Liberty Park in New York City, New York.

ArchTam’s landscape architects designed the one acre, $50 million park offering Highline-inspired raised views of the World Trade Center grounds, including the 9/11 memorial fountains. Made up of densely-planted plots, long angled benches, and a 336-foot-long “vertical garden,” it’s an elevated oasis from the area’s crowds. The park is a rooftop garden constructed on top of a security screening and staging facility for busses and trucks visiting the World Trade Center.

Twilight falls over bike riders along the Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk in downtown Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

ArchTam designed this 2,000-foot long over-the-water path that includes four scenic overlooks and fishing areas. The 15′ wide Schuylkill River Trail is easily one of the most-used parks in Center City Philadelphia with more than 19,000 users every week. The trail is popular with runners, walkers and bikers in both daytime and also after hours. The designers lined the entire path with solar-powered overhead lights to assist with good visibility at night. The boardwalk is another excellent addition to the park’s repertoire, connecting downtown to several universities and other outlying areas.

This exposure was taken at 1/30th of a second at f 5.6 at ISO 800 on a Canon 1Dx mk II camera with 70-200mm lens handheld.

Mitchell River Bridge stands open waiting on sailboats in Chatham, Massachusetts. This historic wooden bascule bridge is the last surviving drawbridge in Massachusetts.

ArchTam was hired to re-engineer the structurally deficient bridge that could no longer fully open and also had a failing road structure. Being an historic structure required replacing the wood timber design with similar components. The new $14 million bridge design features a wooden superstructure, including the road surface, railings and sidewalks. Its substructure is comprised of concrete-filled steel pilings – the parts in contact with the water – and concrete pile caps that support the superstructure.
