To take the simile a bit further, these apps (problem-solving places) must be integrated with the Operating System (urban context) onto which they are installed – working with the capabilities of the hardware (physical components) and software (processes and functionality) of the OS (broader public realm). Another consideration of places as apps is that often apps don’t work well for users and they are deleted. This should implore designers to build better apps that are so essential and desirable that users couldn’t fathom using the OS without them.
