What is your name and role at ArchTam?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My name is Ella. I am a graduate civil engineer in ArchTam\u2019s LSM in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How long have you worked for ArchTam?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had my part-time job in ArchTam starting from December 2021 to December 2022 as a BIM modeller in digital team when I was a university student. Then, I returned to be a graduate engineer after graduation and have been working in LSM for a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Describe your role and day-to-day work?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a member of the project management team, I regularly communicate with staff from various government departments and supporting teams. Occasionally, I handle calculations for project cost estimations and conduct tender assessments. Additionally, I engage in design work, running models and calculating forces and moments using spreadsheets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thinking about the projects you are involved in \u2013 what impact have you had to improve social outcomes for communities?<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have involved in San Tin\/Lok Ma Chau Development Node.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The San Tin\/Lok Ma Chau Development Node is a significant project aimed at improving social outcomes for communities in the region. By increasing the housing supply and enhancing connectivity through the construction of the Northern Link, the development will alleviate housing shortages and improve transportation links. The project will also create numerous job opportunities, boosting the local economy, and establish Hong Kong as an international innovation and technology hub, attracting businesses and investments. Additionally, the development includes sustainable measures, such as the redevelopment of land use and the creation of green spaces, along with new community facilities like parks and recreational areas, which will enhance the quality of life for residents. Overall, the San Tin\/Lok Ma Chau Development Node aims to create a more livable, connected, and economically vibrant community, addressing both immediate needs and long-term sustainability goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How has your work at ArchTam contributed towards having a positive impact on the environment?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I helped work on the environmental impact assessment for a project in the investigation stage for San Tin\/ Lok Ma Chau. Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) have significantly contributed to positive environmental outcomes by identifying potential risks early in the project planning stage, allowing for the implementation of mitigation measures to avoid or minimize negative effects. They provide detailed information on the environmental consequences of proposed actions, enabling informed decision-making that favors sustainability. EIAs also involve public consultations, increasing transparency and allowing communities to voice their concerns. By ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations, EIAs promote sustainable development and protect critical habitats and natural resources. Additionally, addressing environmental risks early can prevent costly mistakes and delays, making projects more economically viable in the long run. Overall, EIAs play a crucial role in balancing economic growth with environmental protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you have any interesting experience around collaboration, multi-disciplinary work, and thinking and acting globally at ArchTam?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I previously collaborated with colleagues and government staff who have geotechnical expertise. We visited the San Tin\/Lok Ma Chau site to identify suitable locations for drilling boreholes for ground investigation. Some local villagers were initially unhappy and voiced their concerns. However, we engaged in discussions with them and successfully resolved the issue together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are there any other interesting or unique opportunities you have had through your work at ArchTam or interesting experiences with clients or building client relationships?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being a helper at the HKIE Engineers Week was a fantastic experience that provided me with opportunities to network and learn. I met many engineers and industry professionals, which helped me build a strong professional network, and connected with clients, gaining valuable insights into their needs and expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How has ArchTam helped you in your career development?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To complete Scheme A for chartership, I need to fulfill a list of specific attributes and write logbook every month. My tutor and supervisor have been very helpful, regularly meeting with me to discuss and review my progress on these attributes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you like most about working for ArchTam?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are numerous projects here, providing me with the opportunity to learn from a wide variety of experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you use ArchTam\u2019s \u2018Freedom to Grow\u2019 to give you a good work\/life balance?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I only worked from home when I was feeling sick, and I found it very helpful. It allowed me to avoid the commute and get more rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s your proudest moment at ArchTam?<\/strong> In the HKIE Engineers Week Event, I promoted the ArchTam project about Tung Chung Eco Shoreline. The Tung Chung Eco Shoreline project is a significant part of the Tung Chung East New Town Extension in Hong Kong. This innovative project, led by ArchTam, aims to enhance biodiversity and create a more sustainable environment along the coastline. When promoting this event, I was proud that ArchTam had involved a lot in this project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
