{"id":38721,"date":"2023-10-23T07:16:09","date_gmt":"2023-10-23T11:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.archtam.com\/?post_type=project&#038;p=38721"},"modified":"2023-10-24T09:04:01","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T13:04:01","slug":"schiphol-airport","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/www.archtam.com\/projects\/schiphol-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"Schiphol Airport: futureproofing one of Europe\u2019s busiest aviation hubs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"aecom-custom-block block-intro-text\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 40px\">\n    <p class=\"editor-emphasized\">\n        We have designed the new pier at Amsterdam\u2019s Schiphol Airport, which will, once complete, strengthen its position as a major European airport.    <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Connecting the Netherlands to 313 destinations, Amsterdam\u2019s Schiphol Airport is one of Europe\u2019s busiest aviation hubs and a key driver of the region\u2019s economic growth.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schiphol\u2019s Pier A is the ninth and latest pier to be built at the airport. Besides providing the airport with eight new gates, it will serve as an iconic new addition that boasts impressive sustainable design credentials.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together with Cepezed and other consultants, we delivered full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archtam.com\/markets\/transportation\/aviation\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.archtam.com\/markets\/transportation\/aviation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">design services<\/a> for Pier A including preliminary design, detail design and technical design, and provided construction support.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sustainable design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as increasing capacity, minimising adverse environmental impact was a key design objective.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pier A has been designed to align with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/leed\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/leed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LEED Gold<\/a> certification, a globally recognised green building standard. By incorporating elements such as biomaterial, insulating glass, recycled plastic and solar panels into the design, the new pier structure \u2013 once complete \u2013 will be the most sustainable pier at Schiphol.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.archtam.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/JGU_20200730_001_1085_aecom_3000-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-111215\" \/><figcaption>Schiphol Airport&#8217;s Pier A under construction.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Digital delivery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The design team also utilised digital environments to work more efficiently. For instance, we implemented a common data environment during the project to facilitate information exchange across disciplines and enforce our company quality procedures. This common data environment has ensured that all disciplines are continuously developing a coordinated design.
