Language can both be a barrier or a catalyst for communication within projects. For bespoke projects in particular geographies, it is advisable to have teams that are aware of the local languages, ways of thinking, customs to avoid issues in overall stakeholder management.

The stakeholders use this weapon from design stages till the defects liability period to the extent that the project seems to be having stakeholders as their clients . Another situation is that the Utility relocation plans prepared by the Consultants are vague and the entire responsibility to find utilities, relocate them just because the stakeholder wants them to replace ,frequent changes in methodologies, stop- notices, and the penalty structures puts hold on the works etc…
End of the day, the costs projected for stakeholder works goes three times and the time required to “get rid of the utilities” runs in to half or more of the construction time. There is more to it….. which we need to discuss across the region.

The most important thing is the language barrier. Certain terminology might mean something to you but completely different to a stake holder. The best solution is to be clear and ask the stake holders team always to explain to your team what they understood.
