This parenting talent / skill and the career sacrifices made by those parents should be recognised by the industry because it is these parents who will nurture the next generation. Such visible recognition from industry leaders is necessary to highlight the significance and importance of parenting roles for the future of any industry. Such recognition could be further demonstrated by providing opportunities to the parents who may have sacrificed their professional careers to dedicate their significant time to parenting. Lack of these opportunities for “experienced parents” is a loss to the workplace because they bring a wealth of life experiences and skills (especially soft unmeasurable skills like empathy, creativity, emotional intelligence, care, client happiness etc) to the mix which can benefit the team. It would be interesting to see how progress on this aspect is measured, reported and correlated to team performance.
